The network "RĂ©seau MĂ©diterranĂ©en des Ă©coles d'ingĂ©nieur" (RMEI) try to interconnect ingeneers schools by the mediterraean sea. The key point of this work is to try to point out the consequencies of this action on the link between the envolved schools. We first assume that the communication acts must be in coherence with politicals and stratĂ©gic decisions. This means that the web sites of the involved school should be interconnected. verifying "by hand" is nearly impossible, thus there are more thant 5O schools in the network. Verify all the pages of the 50 websites to pick up the pages that interconnects the schools would take a lot of time. So to verify this, we had to find softwares able to collect the datas, to rearange them in a way they can be published on the web...
Collecting the data.
The UrlNet python library was used to collect the links between the sites. The library has been adapted to limit spiding only inside the network. Spiding the list of 52 web sites forced to explore, at the 3rd level more than 28000 links... If not such a modification was not performed, it should have been impossible to analyse, because of links to generics sites such as google, adobe, msn. As the author is not a programmer, the contractation of a freelance programmer, on the web (vWorker) was performed. Showing the necessity of multidisciplinary approach in Sciences of Information and the Communication. The choosen freelance programmer was a Brazilian student. The first collection of data was performed without the inclusion of the RMEI effort, but just to try to point out the "spontaneous network" between these schools.

3D positionning
To perform a good representation, we decided to provide the results in a 3D space. The urlnet libray has an export to the Pajek software. This network analysis software include a 3D positionning using the well known Fruchterman-Reingold algorithm. But it must be mentioned that very few 3D implementation os this algorith exists.
Publishing the Results
The difficulty of leading with 3D results is to publish the results in an attractive way. The best one is really web publishing with the possibility to "play with the data" (Rotate, Zoom, Translate) and finally use the application to go navigating on the web. The Javaview applet is very good to perform this. They kindly adapted the applet to accept Pajek files directly.
First Results
The down representation is the first obtained of the "interlinks" between the web sites of the Engeneers schools. We have now to perform the analyse at the URL level (critical path between sites) and after including the RMEI network to show the impact on this network.

Press right mouse button to select major interaction mode from popup menu, or use keyboard keys to temporarily switch between different modes (just keep a button pressed to switch mode temporarily). Some essential modes are:

o Rotate surface (this Orbit mode is the default mode)
s Scale surface, drag in vertical direction
t Translate surface in viewing plane
r Reset camera and display, object returns to default position
j Toggle the browser mode (open URL in a new window)
